What a crazy weekend.<\/p>\n
Reiley went to a downtown Raleigh hotel for a youth retreat, there were times when the house was strangely quiet. But there were exceptions…<\/p>\n
On Saturday, Andrea and I had a rare moment alone while Wren was at a playdate with Olivia and Chloe, and we went out for a walk with the dogs. It was a really nice time, until disaster struck – a neighbor’s little dachshund dog bolted out and threw herself at our pack. By the end of the fracas, she was pretty badly beaten up by Cassidy, who had her by the neck. There was a lot of blood, and the report is that there was vein and tracheal damage requiring expensive surgery. We found out later that the owner of the dog apparently got bitten, and the long arm of the law kicked in. Apparently there is a new animal control lieutenant in Holly Springs requiring manditory quarantine of 10 days for any animal suspected of biting a human, no exceptions. So even though Cassidy was officially in the right, on a leash on the sidewalk when she got attacked, she’s going to do hard time at our vet for the next week and a half. I’m sure she’ll be fine. We’re hoping the little dog (Penelope) has a full recovery, and we’re trying to figure out what we can do to help – from our own dog experiences, we know how traumatic this was for them.<\/p>\n
Rebounding back to good news… Wren earned a Webkins by being well-behaved all weekend, including being a good sport about playing soccer in the rain on Sunday – it was 40 degrees, raining pretty hard, but coach Tom decided that the show must go on – and we had a blast once we got started. All the kids had bright red cheeks by the end of the shortened 20-minute game. So we ended a rough weekend on an up note.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
