Today&#8217;s problem: the desktop machine needed [INPUT_DEVICES=&#8221;evdev&#8221;] in make.conf, and after adding it, <strong>you have to recompile xorg-server<\/strong>.  Until I did that, I had the straightjacket joy of no-keyboard-mouse-response.
