NO. Just no. This aggressive know-it-all "zero-conf" beast trashed my delicate DNS and sent me down a three-day ipv6 nightmare... much of which was not tailscale's fault... but automatic everything is a pipe dream to avoid..

---

TailScale sits on top of WireGuard to make it more zero-conf. But it's provided as a free SaaS. So that is concerning that they will just monetize it some day. But let's try it.

Installation

Setup is dead simple.

  • Create an account
  • Start installing tailscale on each device

It really is that simple. Unfortunately, it DID NOT CONNECT from the Cleveland Clinic to home.

Troubleshooting

It works by taking over DNS via /etc/resolv.conf. I've already carefully done that with dnsmasq in a way that is apparently not compatible. Tailscale uses some "MagicDNS" bs... i think i need to turn it off... but I'm going back to wireguard for now, i don't need more troubles...
