Despite the fact that their first exposure was to the unholy and tortuous “Star Wars Holiday Special”, which circus ringleader Lucas himself says he would like to personally destroy down to the last copy “with a sledgehammer”, the girls have managed to get hooked on the Star Wars saga. |
We’ve had a lot of fun (and it has helped distract me a lot) watching all six movies over the past week or two. IV, V and VI are good campy fun, and I, II, and III are technical marvels. Just remember that these are just some movies, nothing more. While a bit intense for the kids at times (Wrenny did not want to watch at all, and I fast-forwarded through the rougher spots with Reiley), Episode III, in spite of Hayden Christensen’s strenuous efforts, turns out to be quite an epic tragedy, if you sit back and give it a chance.
While I’m here, my 2 cents: if you are annoyed by Jar Jar, how come you have somehow neglected to pay attention, over decades, to how truly annoying C-3PO is? If you have your own personal list of “inaccuracies”, get over it – it’s proof of your secret yearning for it to all be true and good – and you’ll never compete with the seriously get-a-life-day geeks that do things like document every Star Wars minutia into canon-levels or never cease to talk about it. Wicked sick.
OK, enough, time to put the beaten horse back in the stable for another generation. Or at least until next Halloween. We have plans. And just for the record, Wren will NOT be dressing up as a princess, “bleh”, she says. :>
Funny – we have been introducing our kiddies to Star Wars just over the last few weeks. We are going in this order: IV, V, VI, I, II, III. We have let them watch IV and only IV (whenever they want) for a few weeks, and now they are ready for V. We will do the same with each – let them watch one, and then repeat it if they like for a couple of weeks to let it sink in, before moving on to the next. Then, when it is all over, we will go for the all day pizza and popcorn marathon and do all six :-)
Groovy. Yep, we watched them in released order, too. When we finally finished III, the first thing that Reiley wanted to do was to fire up IV and start all over. :>
UPDATE: They’ve made it through IV, V, VI and want me to sit down with them again for I, II, III. They can’t get enough. :>
Mike,
I received an e-mail from Tom Ricker. He was thoughtful enough to include a link to your blog. Wow! You seem to be enjoying a rich and beautiful life. Good for you.
Peace
Lee D.
Lee!! Good to hear from you! Now you’ve got me at a disadvantage – you have to fill me in on what’s been going on with YOU. :> To start with, where is home these days my friend?
Mike,
I am living in Missouri. I teach English in a tiny rural school district near the Lake of the Ozarks. I have lived here 20 years this month. My son, Dylan, is fifteen. He is much smarter than his old man.
I would love to send you a proper e-mail. My address is lee@cdoc.net. If you would be kind enough to send me your e-mail address, then I will happily fill you in on the not-too-exciting details.
Truly, it is so very good to know that you and the family are well.
Peace
Lee
‘ve been thinking about you and catching up on your recent news, oh hell Mike what a wicked trail you’ve been walking down, though it sounds like things are directionally correct if not completly bearable and I am glad for that, I miss you guys, I hope Andrea is well and the girls. We continue to pray for “Uncle Mike” daily, sad that it took this for you to rate on the prayer list but whatareyougoingdo, let’s connect soon…
Thanks, Ken, yes let’s get reconnected soon. Lately I’ve been daydreaming of our old Descent battles… :>
