Cleaning house (or more accurately, the temple)…

My cancer battle climaxed in April 2007 with the ‘mother of all surgeries’, CRS with IPHC. That surgery was a success and nearly wiped the slate clean, but it left a lot of scar tissue. Today, I finally addressed the frequent backups caused by the scarring with a fourth (and final, with any luck and some grace from God) surgery. All indicators point to a total success! I’ll update as I come out of the morphine fog…

Also, a shout out to my cousins Allison and Dawn, also fighting the good fight. Stay strong and keep at it!

See the comments for updates…

  1. I didn’t know it but apparently I’m going for a Guinness Book of World Records’ best, in the category of ‘Up Your Nose With A Rubber Hose’. I’m on day 6 with only a faint glimmer on the horizon (I farted once). Horseshack got jack on me, I’m takin’ the title!

I’ll post another update when something happpens… sigh…

Peace bro, thanks for checking in, hope all is well with u and yours…

  2. Monday 7/6/09 Did you get to leave the hospital, today? It shouldn’t be very long , now that you got the UYNWARH out.let us know?
    Love, yo Momma

  3. Hoping you’re doing well – you still in the hospital? I can sneak you in some semi real food :)

  4. Thanks pal.

Yeah, ALMOST done… tube’s been out for a couple days now. I’m on the “clear liquids” stage, things have “woken up” so I’ll probably go home today or tomorrow, yay.

I’d almost take you up on your offer just to see what you’d bring in… rofl!

By the way, Prashanth brought me flowers and Harvest Tomato soup. What a nice guy! And Ebony, Ryan, Jim and Heather have stopped by too. Go team ABB! :> I have other friends that stopped by too but by now I know you can tell I’m just trying to impress you. :>

Seriously, thanks everybody, my pals are the best in the world. :>

  5. Whoa! Hope everything came out alright and you have a swift recovery.

I wouldn’t take Boswell up on the offer by the way. His idea of “real food” involves many dead animals in various stages of burnt.

We’ll have to do one of those LAN things when you’re back on your feet. It’s much more fun destroying you when you can fight back. ;)

  6. Haha yeah I’d love to see where he would “hide” it, too!

Yes, let’s party on, soon. Thanks Chau.

Quick update: I’m at home now but the plumbing’s not working yet. Still waiting. Soon….

  7. Why do words of zealotry always make me sad? But I do wish I made it to your wedding (and you to mine). We have lost time to make up for…

  8. Dear Mike:

Thanks for the mention in your amazing blog. Things are going OK with me — no, actually, they’re going well! My scans are currently clear, and I am done with chemo and back to gradually resuming my “normal” life — plus the nagging fear of a recurrence, but I guess that goes with the territory.

My sincere sympathies on your ongoing issues — having been at the ER once myself mid-chemo with a “possible obstruction” I am all too familiar with the problems that arise once that system grinds to a shocking halt.

But, as you and I both know now, such awful lows are followed by amazing recoveries and an increased appreciation for life — it’s hard to keep that in mind, though, when you’re in the middle of the worst of it and it seems like it will drag on forever and ever! :)

You are in my thoughts and prayers — God is great, and you will be well again.

    Dawn

  9. Dawn, you’re so right, it’s SO TRUE, there’s a renewal of your soul that occurs when you come through the other side. It’s an appreciation that cannot occur without the suffering. I’m overjoyed to hear about your success, keep up the good work. :>

Here, I’ve turned the corner and I’m on the mend, slowly putting the weight back on. I’ll try to post some more of my recent adventures soon.
