Uncle Bill and Aunt Judy come by our way!

My Uncle Bill and Aunt Judy met us last night at our favorite watering hole, Mellow Mushroom, for a quick dinner on their trek from Maine to Florida. It was great to see them, glad they were able to take the detour and hang out with us for a bit! They look mahvelous, trekking across the country with the bikes on the back of the van. Hopefully the rest of their journey will be less perilous than the first part, full of ice and sleet. With any luck, by the time they hit Florida, they should have nothing but sunshine. It was a good precursor to the big family reunion Uncle Bill is coordinating for July/August.

9.0 Incubus – Dig

Chase what’s important to you in life. Play this while you do it. Sometimes optimism is alright! :>

Other times, sarcasm does the trick, ala Cracker’s Teen Angst. Here‘s an interview with Cracker dude David Lowery, where he gives a nod to Kurt Vonnegut for his “irony and humor”, and says “I think Bush has done more for energy conservation than Clinton ever did just by screwing everything up”. I’m currently reading Vonnegut’s Jail Bird, it’s Vonnegut so I don’t have to tell you it’s good.

Snow Squeeze

With the 16th of an inch of snow that fell yesterday, we gave it our all to have a snow day. Sledding through mud and dog scat, building a 4″ snowman, and throwing the three half-dirt snowballs we scraped together at each other, we somehow managed to have a blast. And it was cold enough to have a steamin’ hot chocolate afterwards. Pathetic AND fun! :>

9.0 Juliet – Waiting

This sweet song has a shadow of the heartache of Matt Johnson and Sinead O’Connor’s ‘Kingdom of Rain’ duet. Keep them both tucked away for that next post-fight pity party… Then when you make up put on Beck’s ‘I Think I’m In Love’ or The Dandy Warhols’ ‘Bohemian Like You’…

Around the world in 30 beers

We had a great time over the break – I had three weeks off, whoop! – we made the trek down to Florida shortly after Christmas. This year, (most of) the Miller clan decided to try the single-gift-exchange approach. We all put our names in a hat and we each picked one person for whom we’d buy one gift. It worked out nicely. Some highlights: we managed to get Dan a nice 4-channel RC helicopter, which we flew-and-crashed all day long until we were just about out of spare parts; and I got a buttload of beers from around the world (thanks Val!!). So I’ll try to document each one here, as I partake… Continue reading “Around the world in 30 beers”

Even the kitchen sink…

I’m obviously blog-happy lately, blogging everything including the kitchen sink. Which broke today. $4 at Home Depot and 45 minutes later, it was better than new (find the shiny part, that’s what I did). I guess I now have a fall-back career after the next dotbomb crash… find the shiny part...

Another canine “crosses our path”

We have a family tenet that we’ll try to give a helping hand to any dog that “crosses our path”. And so when mom Grammy and the girls saw a three-legged dog and a small puppy running around on the way back from horseback riding, on a speedy road with no house in sight, they pulled over to see what they could do. Believe it or not, the three-legged dog was too fast for them. :> But they think he was wearing a collar, so hopefully he’ll find his way home. The puppy, on the other hand, was playing in the road. They scooped her up and we arranged for her to get to the shelter. We’ll be checking in on her… so if you’re in the market for a beautiful little chocolate lab puppy… ;>

UPDATE: She’s been adopted, you’re too late. :>
