Traditional Easter dinner at Grammy’s house
Easter dinner tradition continues, this year with a fabulous Celebration Roast at Grammy’s house, followed by a round of Pictionary. Wonder what we did with that huge Pictionary whiteboard we had in the 90’s…
One Year Cancer Free
I had my second semi-annual CT scan check yesterday. I was pretty stressed out during the few days before, Andrea was great at keeping my spirits up. She made the haul with me over to Winston-Salem to see our local hero Dr. Levine. The CT scan is a compromise – I hate to get bombarded with massive amounts of X-rays – but the resulting picture is good enough for Dr. Levine to see what’s going on. And the answer: not much. Groovy! The sun seems just a little brighter today. :>
The Ultimate PDA
I bought the kids a moleskin yesterday – the ultimate PDA! Now all their great artwork scribbles will be preserved! The only rule was that they have to share their work. Win-win!
We have liftoff – The Boxcar Kid is released!
My pop’s been working his tail off on his first novel, The Boxcar Kid, for a few years now, and yesterday it hit the stores! It’s on the front page of his publisher’s site right now. This is BIG NEWS, we’re all so excited and proud of ya, pop! :>
There’s full info at the publisher’s page, and I’ve been hosting a website for it for a while now, too. I’ll try to update this as more news rolls in…
UPDATE: Andrea is a librarian at goodreads (my lovely nerdy girl! I’m married to a librarian, how sexy is THAT?! :P). She added the book there, so you can rate and discuss it!
Uncle Bill and Aunt Judy come by our way!
My Uncle Bill and Aunt Judy met us last night at our favorite watering hole, Mellow Mushroom, for a quick dinner on their trek from Maine to Florida. It was great to see them, glad they were able to take the detour and hang out with us for a bit! They look mahvelous, trekking across the country with the bikes on the back of the van. Hopefully the rest of their journey will be less perilous than the first part, full of ice and sleet. With any luck, by the time they hit Florida, they should have nothing but sunshine. It was a good precursor to the big family reunion Uncle Bill is coordinating for July/August.
Snow Squeeze
With the 16th of an inch of snow that fell yesterday, we gave it our all to have a snow day. Sledding through mud and dog scat, building a 4″ snowman, and throwing the three half-dirt snowballs we scraped together at each other, we somehow managed to have a blast. And it was cold enough to have a steamin’ hot chocolate afterwards. Pathetic AND fun! :>
Around the world in 30 beers
We had a great time over the break – I had three weeks off, whoop! – we made the trek down to Florida shortly after Christmas. This year, (most of) the Miller clan decided to try the single-gift-exchange approach. We all put our names in a hat and we each picked one person for whom we’d buy one gift. It worked out nicely. Some highlights: we managed to get Dan a nice 4-channel RC helicopter, which we flew-and-crashed all day long until we were just about out of spare parts; and I got a buttload of beers from around the world (thanks Val!!). So I’ll try to document each one here, as I partake… Continue reading “Around the world in 30 beers”
